Northumberland Co-operative Dairy is pleased to announce its support of Kids Help Phone. Kids Help Phone is Canada's only toll-free, 24-hour, bilingual and anonymous phone and web counselling, referral and information service for children and youth. Everyday, professional counsellors provide immediate, caring support to young people in urban and rural communities across the country. Kids contact Kids Help Phone about every issue imaginable - from school, dating and family problems, to depression, abuse and suicide. Northumberland is working to increase awareness of the service in New Brunswick. "Northumberland Dairy is putting contact information including the telephone number 1 800 668 6868 and website address kidshelpphone.ca on Northumberland 250 mL milk cartons, " said Jack Christie, General Manager Northumberland Co-operative Ltd. "Over time there will be a total of five products that will carry this message," he continued, "this is the product size schools carry and therefore most beneficial in reaching kids." In 2006, young people turned to Kids Help Phone more than 78,000 times from 83 communities across New Brunswick, and more than 1.5 million times from kids in Canada. According the Anthony Keating, Atlantic Coordinator of Marketing and Fund Development Kids Help Phone, "Kids choose the way they want to interact with us - phone or web; direct counselling or "help yourself" information." Kids Help Phone reported an increase of 9% in the number of calls answered over 2005, and a 43 % increase in the usage of the web service. Since 1942, Northumberland Dairy continues to be a quality manufacturer, processing dairy products for distribution across New Brunswick. To this day it operates as a farmer owned and operated co-operative. |
